Hello everyone!
My unique journey intertwines military leadership with a newfound passion for education. Amidst an unexpected detour into teaching, I discovered a calling that led me to the Army Sustainment University (ASU) and, eventually, to pursue a Master of Education (M.Ed.) at Post University.
From Military Discipline to Classroom Dynamics
The M.Ed. program was more than a series of courses; it was an enlightening expedition into self-discovery and pedagogical innovation. Once geared towards strategic logistics, my military discipline found a new arena in education. The program’s emphasis on adaptability, technology integration, and creating inclusive learning environments resonated deeply, shaping my teaching and curriculum development approach.
Innovative Technology and Inclusive Environments
The program’s focus on leveraging technology and fostering diverse learning spaces has been transformative. Courses like EDU520 - Digitally Mediated Teaching & Learning, equipped me with the tools to integrate cutting-edge tech into my lessons, making education more accessible and engaging. The principle of inclusivity has driven me to ensure that every learner at ASU feels valued, preparing me to cultivate empathetic, well-rounded future leaders.
Shaping the Future of Military Education
The concentration in Curriculum and Instruction was pivotal, offering insights into modern curriculum design models like Understanding by Design (UbD) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). These have influenced my initiatives at ASU, from integrating VR simulations to redesigning courses for enhanced accessibility and engagement.
Towards a New Horizon
As I stand on the cusp of transitioning to a GS-12 DoD Instructor role, the M.Ed. program has armed me with a vision for innovative, inclusive military education. The journey has underscored the importance of continuous learning, adaptability, and the transformative power of education.
This odyssey from the military to the classroom underscores a belief in education's ability to forge leaders prepared for tomorrow's challenges. As I look ahead, I’m inspired to continue evolving, and applying these insights to impact military education positively.
